Death and multiple shootings raise questions in WPD investigation

WICHITA, Kansas (KWCH) – Questions remain after a 21-year-old woman died and another person was injured in the shootings reported in Wichita on Wednesday night. Police are calling the shootings targeted and say they are working multiple crime scenes, including one at the corner of 29th Street North and Broadway.

Jadidah Ponce, 21, died at a Wichita hospital on Wednesday evening after someone drove her there. It is still unclear where the shooting that fatally wounded her took place. We do know that another person was shot during an altercation near the corner of 29th Street and Broadway. That person was also taken to the hospital and suffered minor injuries.

The day after the shooting, police said they had to work at several crime scenes and were still working to speak to witnesses.

“Few details can be released at this stage of the investigation. We are still actively investigating this case and know there are additional witnesses who have not testified or cooperated with the investigation,” said Captain Aaron Moses of the Wichita Police Department.

As of Thursday evening, police have not made any arrests in connection with the shootings that killed Ponce and injured a second person. Anyone with information about Wednesday evening’s incidents of gun violence can call Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
