Montgomery pastor charged with sexual abuse and sodomy

A Montgomery pastor was sentenced to prison for sodomy and sexual abuse, records show.

Gregory Sheldon Cannon, 61, was booked into the Montgomery County Jail on Monday on charges of sodomy and first-degree sexual abuse, jail records show.

He is being held without bond.

According to his biography on the church’s website, Cannon has been pastor of Rice Temple AOH Church of God in Montgomery since 2003.

According to the indictment filed against him in Montgomery County District Court, Cannon is also known by the alias Bishop Canan.

The Montgomery County jury found Cannon guilty of sexual abuse and sodomy “by force,” the indictment states.
