12-year-old shot while allegedly breaking into a car in Shreveport

Over the weekend, a teenager was shot in Shreveport after he allegedly tried to break into a parked car in the Southern Hills neighborhood.

According to Shreveport Police, officers responded to reported shots fired in the 8800 block of Hawthorne Dive on Saturday, May 11, around 11 p.m.

Officers located Jaylen Coleman, 12, suffering a gunshot wound to the head. According to police, Coleman was pronounced dead despite the assistance of first responders.

Violent crime investigators were immediately called to the scene and juvenile witnesses were arrested.

According to police reports, Coleman and other children were attempting to break into a vehicle when the owner of the vehicle fired a gun.
