Chlöe Bailey speaks about the critical examination of the acceptance of her sexuality

Chlöe Bailey has addressed the criticism she has received over her attitude towards her sexuality.

The 23-year-old singer, one half of R&B duo Chlöe x Halle, was criticized last year by fans who claimed her image had been hypersexualized.

During a recent interview for Yahoo’s In the Know, she was asked what it was like to face expectations around sexuality “in a sexually repressed society.”

“There has never been a time when a society has been comfortable with a woman being powerful in the skin that she is in,” the Grammy nominee explained. “So I just have to give a shout out to every woman who has inspired me, to every one of my colleagues who is saying, ‘I love my body. I feel sexy.’”

Bailey compared her experiences to those of Donna Summer, Kelis, Beyoncè and Nina Simone.

“No matter what women do, no matter how talented we are, no matter how crazy we are, someone will always have a problem because we celebrate our bodies and the skin we’re in… but you shouldn’t.” “Dark not your light, period,” she continued.

The “Have Mercy” star also linked accepting her sexuality to her admiration for the Formation hitmaker, who served as a mentor to her.

“I can honestly and truly say that it was Beyoncé who made me look at my body and say that maybe it’s okay to have my body in my jeans,” Chlöe mused. “During the Bootylicious era, I watched her flaunting her curves and said, ‘She looks damn good!'”
