Fairfield man killed in crash in Jefferson County

A new report found that traffic fatalities in New York increased in 2021

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — A single-vehicle crash Friday night in Jefferson County left a Fairfield man dead.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, 46-year-old Kelvin Matthews was injured when the Cadillac he was driving left the road and struck a tree around 11 p.m. Mathews was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and was transported to UAB Hospital in Birmingham for medical treatment. Matthews was pronounced dead on Saturday.

The accident occurred on I-59 near the 119 mph mark. Nothing else is available as ALEA continues to investigate.
