Ethics audit finds probable cause that Rep. Troy Nehls misused campaign funds

WASHINGTON – The independent office that investigates allegations against members of the House of Representatives has found probable cause that Texas Rep. Troy Nehls used campaign funds for personal use, triggering an investigation by the House Ethics Committee, according to a statement Friday new disclosure was announced.

The Office of Congressional Ethics’ recommendation and full report were both released Friday, as required by law. House Ethics Committee leaders emphasized that the disclosure itself does not mean there was a violation and stressed that the investigation into Nehls is ongoing. Nehls’ attorney told the committee that lawmakers did not benefit from the agreement, which raised concerns with the Ethics Office.
