Pedestrian injured in hit-and-run while fleeing police in Powell Street accident

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (May 10, 2024) — A 14-year-old girl was among two people injured in a pedestrian hit-and-run accident near Powell and Francisco streets.

According to San Francisco police, the hit-and-run accident occurred around 7:53 a.m. Tuesday. After police saw a car hit a pedestrian near Jones and Market streets, they began pursuing the driver, who immediately fled. The driver then drove recklessly in the Tenderloin area before hitting a 14-year-old girl near Francisco Middle School in North Beach.

Seconds later, the suspect vehicle crashed into other parked and unoccupied vehicles before coming to a stop.

After the incident, officers arrested the driver, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The 14-year-old girl who was struck near the middle school and the first pedestrian suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the accident.
