Accident in Mansfield as a result of a police chase | News

State police said members of Troop C observed the reported vehicle at the intersection of Route 195 and Route 32 and attempted to stop it.

According to state police, the driver refused to stop and was not pursued.

At approximately 2 p.m., State Police were notified of a traffic accident in Mansfield involving a Middletown Police Department patrol car. No injuries were reported and the accident remains under investigation.

Information available to State Police currently indicates that the suspect is in the custody of the Southbridge, Massachusetts Police Department.

Following the accident on Wormwood Hill Road, Mansfield City Manager Ryan Aylesworth released a statement on social media.

“During an active police investigation conducted today by the Middletown Police Department, one of their patrol vehicles collided with an innocent motorist on Wormwood Hill Road in Mansfield. Fortunately, to the best of our knowledge, none of those involved were seriously injured as a result of the collision. Additionally, to the best of our knowledge, the suspect in question was later arrested in another county in Massachusetts. The safety and well-being of our residents is the highest priority of town officials and the Mansfield Police Department’s Office. Incidents such as this underscore the need for careful consideration and coordination when conducting police activities that cross municipal boundaries. We look forward to the appropriate authorities completing a thorough investigation of this incident to understand the actions and circumstances that led to today’s accident.”
