3-year-old in critical condition after dog attack in Brooklyn Park | The Mighty 790 KFGO

BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. (KFGO/WCCO) – A 3-year-old is in critical condition after a dog attack in Brooklyn Park Friday afternoon.

Brooklyn Park police said they were called to a report of a dog attack in the 7500 block of Brooklyn Park Drive North around 12:45 p.m. There they found two pit bulls attacking the boy.

The boy was playing on a playground equipment outside the house when he was attacked, police said.

Angie Towers lives down the block with her two dogs. She still can’t believe a child was hurt by dogs.

“The dogs were always very nice, coming to my house, playing with my dogs, it’s just sad and devastating,” she said.

Towers believes it was a freak accident.

“I’m worried because one of the dogs just had a litter of puppies. I don’t know if she was protected, but I’ve never had a problem with the dogs,” Towers added. “I hope the baby is OK,” she said.

According to police, several officers fired their service weapons and struck both dogs. One of the dogs was killed and the other injured.

The child was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

The injured dog was taken to a nearby animal care facility. The dog’s owners, who live in the house where the boy was playing, are cooperating with police.

The incident is under investigation.
