Two people and a dog die after house fire in South Austin

Two people and a dog died Wednesday from injuries sustained in a house fire in South Austin.

Austin Fire Department personnel responded to 1006 S. Center Street shortly after 3 p.m. and found flames coming from the rear, said Assistant Fire Chief Andre de la Reza.

Officials said four people and three dogs were in the home at the time of the fire. Two of the four people suffered fatal injuries. The other two suffered minor injuries. It is unclear how many people lived in the home. Reza said it is possible more people could be found.

Reza said the cause of the fire was still unclear and would only be clarified through the fire department’s investigation.
