The owner of a New Jersey dog grooming salon was arrested and charged with drug possession with intent to resell after a dog died in the salon’s care on Friday, police said.

Police reported the incident on social media on Tuesday.

According to police, officers were contacted after a pet owner dropped off his dog at K9 Kingdom Pet Grooming in the 580 block of Woodbury-Glassburo Road for a grooming appointment at approximately 1 p.m. on Friday, July 14, 2024.

A short time later, the pet owner was contacted by business owner Trevor Hunt, who informed him that the dog, which had been brought in for a grooming appointment, had died, police said.

However, during the investigation into the store, officials said, Hunt became “uncooperative” and was taken into police custody.

During further investigations on the property, a “significant quantity” of narcotics was found, police officials said.

Hunt was charged with tampering with evidence, resisting arrest, possession of narcotics and attempting to distribute crime. Police officials said the investigation was ongoing.

Officials say Hunt is being held in the Salem County Jail pending his detention hearing.
