Senate and House of Representatives again adjourn plenary session to mourn the death of Representative Adams

The Senate and the House of Representatives adjourned their sessions on Tuesday to mourn the sudden death of a colleague, the congressman. Ekene Abubakar AdamsBoth Chambers accordingly adjourned their plenary session to Wednesday, 17 July 2024.

Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas (APC Kaduna), announced Rep Adams Death after accepting the votes and minutes of Tuesday’s plenary session. Abbas, when reading the message said: “Rep Adams was the founder of a football club based in Kaduna. His service in the House of Representatives also testifies to his versatility and unwavering commitment to the progress of our society. Honourable Adam Ekene’s tenure in the House of Representatives was marked by his tireless commitment to his constituents and his contributions to the development of sports in Nigeria. Honourable Ekene was passionate to the end and demonstrated his commitment to the promotion of sports and the success of our athletes on the world stage.

“In addition to his public service, the Honorable Adams was a loving husband and father. He leaves behind his beloved wife and children, who were his greatest source of strength and inspiration. What is particularly poignant is that the death of Honourable Adam comes just days after the death of another distinguished member, Honourable Prince Olaide Akinremi. These recent events are a sobering reminder of the transience of life and the importance of cherishing every moment we have.

“As we mourn the loss of the Honourable Ikene Abubakar Adams, we also celebrate his life, his achievements and the lasting impact he had on his constituency and our country. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and all those who were privileged to know him.”

The Senate also adjourned its plenary session in honour of the deceased MP. Adams who died in the early hours of the morning after a short illness. As tradition dictates, the Senate adjourned its session shortly after being called to today’s plenary session and adjourned it until Wednesday, 17 July 2024. Mr President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabiowho announced the death of the MP, expressed his condolences to the family members. Immediately after the announcement of the deceased MP, the Chairman of the Senate, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele (APC, Ekiti Central) moved that the Senate suspend its activities for the day in honour of the late lawmaker. The Senate and the House of Representatives then observed a minute’s silence in honour of the late lawmaker and subsequently adjourned the session.

The 39-year-old MP represented Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency in Kaduna State until his death. He was also the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Sports. This happened barely a week after the MP’s death. Olaide Akinremipopularly known as “Jagaban“, who died after a short illness.
