1 dead in car crash in Provo Canyon

PROVO — A car accident in Provo Canyon near Bridal Veil Falls left one person dead Thursday afternoon.

The Utah Highway Patrol said the accident occurred around 4 p.m. when a Chevy Cobalt driving down the canyon in heavy rain lost control. UHP Lt. Cameron Roden said the car entered the eastbound lane and a Kia Sorrento struck the driver’s side of the Chevy.

The man driving the Chevy was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. The Kia driver was taken to a hospital with moderate injuries.

Roden said the eastbound lanes were closed and the westbound lanes were being used for travel in both directions.
