Hammad sentenced to 14 years in prison for raping a 13-year-old

Ismail Hammad, a man who raped a 12-year-old girl after marrying her extrajudicially and impregnated her, causing the girl to give birth to a child at the age of 13, was sentenced to 14 years in prison.

The child was born in 2018 after Hammad had a sexual relationship with the minor under the pretext of marriage. The case came to light in December 2019 as part of an investigation launched after Hammad was attacked in a religious dispute.

After the attack, Hammad was treated for his injuries in hospital, but he was arrested immediately after his release.

The Criminal Court’s ruling today found Hammad guilty of touching the body of a child with sexual intent – a charge brought against him by the public prosecutor.

According to the law on special provisions for dealing with perpetrators of child sexual abuse, touching the body of a child with sexual intent is punishable by a prison sentence of ten to 14 years.

According to the law, Hammad’s sentence carried the maximum penalty in the case: after taking into account the time he has already spent in prison, he would have to serve nine years, four months and 15 days.

After the case became known, the state took custody of the minor, the baby she gave birth to and all the other children in the family.

Both of the child’s parents are now in prison.
