The NBA is reopening its investigation into former Rockets guard Kevin Porter Jr.

There was a time when some people believed Kevin Porter Jr. was the future of the Houston Rockets.

Those days are over. Porter Jr. just signed a new contract with the Clippers. But a lot has happened between his time with the Rockets and his new contract.

Specifically, Porter Jr. was accused of assault and strangulation. His girlfriend at the time, Kysre Gondrezick, accused Porter Jr. of hitting her in the face several times – but she has since withdrawn these allegations.

It seems that the NBA wants to investigate the situation anyway.

The NBA has no reason to investigate Porter Jr. if he is not in the NBA.

He most recently played professionally in Greece. After the allegations, the Rockets traded Porter Jr. to the Thunder, who subsequently released him. Porter Jr. wanted to play professionally abroad while waiting for an NBA opportunity.

Now he has found one. The Clippers have signed Porter Jr. for two years, with a player option for the second season.

Therefore, the league is rightly investigating him again.

We are not lawyers. We are just speculating here.

Since Gondrezick has retracted her allegations, we assume there will be no obstacles in Porter Jr.’s return to the NBA. He will likely play for the Clippers next season.

Morality is a complicated matter. This is not the first allegation of this kind made against Porter Jr. Whatever happened in that hotel room, it is obvious that he has deep personal issues that he needs to deal with.

One could argue that he deserves a second chance. On the other hand, one could argue that this is his third or fourth chance. Either way, it seems that Porter Jr. will return to the NBA.

We will see what he does with this opportunity.
