Two men arrested during investigation into ATM robbery

Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet announced the arrest of two Breaux Bridge men in connection with a recent armed robbery of a local bank. Gilbert Matthews, 27, and Jermonte Hamilton, 23, were arrested in connection with the investigation on first-degree robbery charges. The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office said the two men robbed an ATM repairman at gunpoint on West Main Street in June and demanded money. The suspects then forcibly removed several components from the ATM and fled the scene. The Sheriff’s Office said they were able to link Matthews and Hamilton to the crime using video surveillance footage and DNA evidence. Matthews was charged with first-degree robbery and arrested by the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office. Hamilton was charged with first-degree robbery and arrested in Lafayette.
