Melvyn Jaminet: France suspends full-back for racist social media comment | Rugby Union News

France have suspended full-back Melvyn Jaminet after a video emerged online in which the Toulon player made a racist remark.

Jaminet, who came off the bench to score a penalty in France’s 28-13 win over Argentina in Mendoza on Saturday, posted the clip on his Instagram account.

It was later deleted but shared online.

The French Rugby Federation (FTR) condemned the 25-year-old’s comments and said: “Such comments are totally unacceptable and violate the fundamental values ​​of our sport.”

“For this reason, Melvyn Jaminet has been removed from the French squad and has left as he is currently in Argentina.

“An internal investigation is underway to shed light on these comments, which are extremely serious, and will take appropriate action.

“Rugby is a sport that brings people together and unites them, and we must promote these fundamental values. There is no place for discriminatory behaviour of any kind in French rugby.”

Shortly after his suspension was announced, Jaminet apologized, saying he was “deeply sorry” and “ashamed” of his comments.

He said: “I understand that this has hurt and offended many people and I want to make it clear that these comments do not reflect my values ​​or those of the French national rugby team.”

“Racism in any form is unacceptable and goes against everything I believe in.”
