Incident: Armed robbery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon | Local news

BENNINGTON – Bennington Police are investigating a report of a car theft that occurred on Friday, July 5, 2024, at approximately 11:20 p.m. This occurred in the Walmart parking lot at 210 Northside Drive in Bennington, Vermont.

The suspect entered the victim’s vehicle through the passenger window after displaying a firearm. The victim was forced to exit his vehicle and the suspect fled the area in the victim’s vehicle. The victim was treated at the scene by members of the Bennington Rescue Squad for minor injuries. Vermont State Police assisted in this incident.

During the investigation, it was determined that the suspect attempted to rob two Walmart employees while they were working outside the store. The suspect approached the two Walmart employees and pointed a firearm at them. The two employees were handcuffed with duct tape while the suspect demanded money. The suspect eventually ran away from the employees as a delivery truck drove by. Both employees were not injured.

The suspect ran and stole a white 2023 Toyota Highlander during his escape. On Saturday, July 6, 2024, the vehicle was found on Elm Street. The suspect is approximately 5’5″ tall and wearing a black jacket, blue jeans, white shoes, gloves, and a mask. Witnesses described the offender as a young white male.

The perpetrator is currently unknown and investigators are following up on leads. The Bennington Police Department is asking anyone with information regarding this incident to contact them at 802-442-1030 or through our tip line at www.BenningtonPolice.com. We are also asking residents of Elm Street and surrounding neighborhoods to check their security cameras for any suspicious activity after 11:30 p.m. on July 5th through the early morning hours of Saturday, July 6th.
