Two people arrested for arson in car fire in June

LAFAYETTE, Louisiana (KLFY) – Two people turned themselves in to authorities on Monday in connection with an incident in June in which three vehicles were damaged by fire.

According to the Lafayette Fire DepartmentFirefighters responded to a vehicle fire at the Eagle Run Apartments on South College Drive just before 1 a.m. on June 19. Upon arrival, firefighters found a vehicle in the parking lot fully engulfed in flames, and the flames had spread to two nearby vehicles. After the fire was extinguished, three vehicles sustained fire damage.


Lafayette Fire Department investigators concluded that the vehicle was intentionally set on fire. After a criminal investigation, two people were identified as possible suspects. Arrest warrants were obtained for 43-year-old Judd Guilbeau and 35-year-old Mariah Janik. Both suspects were charged with one count of arson and two counts of criminal damage.

The suspects turned themselves in to the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on Monday evening.
