Burlington man arrested after threatening person with knife, police say

A Burlington man was arrested Monday after police say he threatened another person with a knife. Police say Abukar Ibrahim, 38, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and trespassing in connection with an incident on South Union Street. Investigators say Ibrahim threatened to kill a person with a knife after the victim told Ibrahim he was trespassing in the area of ​​South Union Street. When police arrived at the scene, Ibrahim left the area but was found and arrested minutes later. Ibrahim was released by a judge on the condition that he appear in court on Tuesday to answer the charges. Ibrahim has had previous encounters with police and was convicted of a felony, police said. He was charged with attempted premeditated murder in 2018 after police say he stabbed a 73-year-old Meals on Wheels volunteer with a machete.
