Unanimous support for Payman’s suspension shows Labour faction is ‘united’ but leaves little room for dissent — Capital Brief

At a group meeting on Tuesday morning, Labour MPs supported Anthony AlbaneseThe Democrats’ decision to suspend the senator was rejected on the grounds that “Senator Payman, through her own actions and statements, has deprived herself of the privileges that come with participation in the Labor Party caucus in the federal parliament.”

This step was announced to journalists by a party spokesman during the traditional press conference following the parliamentary group meetings.

We were told that the vote to suspend Payman because of her simmering rebellion against the Gaza war was passed unanimously and not a single MP had anything to say on the matter.

Only three questions were asked at the group meeting, all of which could be described as “Dorothy Dixer questions”, which enabled the ministers to Tony Burke, Linda Burney And Julie Collins to talk about positive developments in their portfolios.
