Southbury Road Alert: Find out when construction on the Purchase Brook Road Bridge will begin

The Town of Southbury announces that construction on the Purchase Brook Road Bridge over Purchase Brook will begin on Monday, July 15, 2024. The bridge is located at 812 Purchase Brook Road and is currently limited to an alternating one-way pattern. The project includes the complete replacement of the bridge.

The bridge will be completely closed to all traffic, including cars, cyclists and pedestrians, 24 hours a day. The project duration is approximately 2.5 months. The bridge is currently scheduled to reopen on Monday, September 30, 2024. Inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances may affect the reopening date. Any changes to this schedule will be communicated in a timely manner.

River Road will be open beginning Monday, July 15, 2024, to provide access to the Purchase area during the closure of the Purchase Brook Road Bridge.

During the bridge replacement, a detour will be in place consisting of Purchase Brook Road, Stillson Road, Spruce Brook Road, South Britain Road, Main Street South, Ichabod Road, Fish Rock Road and River Road. Motorists should follow posted detour routes.
