One dead after nighttime shooting in Chesapeake

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – A man is dead after an overnight shooting in Chesapeake, police say.

Shortly after 3 a.m., Chesapeake police officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 500 block of Coveside Lane. When officers arrived on the scene, they found 30-year-old Jeremiah Joseph Casarez suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Casarez was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are asking for the public’s help in locating 39-year-old Darnell Maceo Barnwell, who they believe is a person of interest in the investigation. Barnwell was last seen leaving the area in a black Hyundai sedan.
