Trump leads Biden among Georgia voters ahead of CNN debate in Atlanta: poll

Former President Donald Trump maintains his lead over President Joe Biden in Georgia ahead of their Thursday battle on the debate stage in Atlanta.

A Atlanta Journal-Constitution A poll released Tuesday shows Trump with a 42.7 to 37.6 percent lead over Biden. The survey also shows independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. with 8.5 percent and Libertarian candidate Chase Oliver with 1 percent, while 7.9 percent of respondents say they are undecided. Kennedy has not yet qualified for the ballot in Georgia.

The poll continues the trend of Trump holding the edge over Biden in Georgia, which the former president narrowly lost in 2020. RealClearPolitics the polling average shows Trump leading Biden 46.2% to 42.2% in recent polls in the state.

In the 2020 election, Biden won the state 49.5% to 49.2%, by about 12,000 votes. The State is considered a “coin toss” by the Cook Political Reportbut Trump has not trailed in a single poll since November 2023 — when a poll showed him trailing the president by one point.

The two men will face off Thursday at the CNN studio in Atlanta in the first of their two debates. It is scheduled to start at 9 p.m.

The debate will be in a pivotal phase for both candidates, but both will be flying to other states where they hope to be competitive after Thursday’s matchup. Biden is expected to hold a rally in North Carolina on Friday, while Trump will travel to Virginia for his own rally alongside Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R-VA).
