Alabama tornado: twister near Athens; Madison, Huntsville and Decatur on alert

Multiple tornado warnings were issued across northeast Alabama on Wednesday, with Athens, Madison, Huntsville and Decatur on high alert. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a warning and urged residents in the area to seek shelter as quickly as possible. Meanwhile, tornado maps showed a massive tornado approaching Athens in Limestone County.​​

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued one warning, and asks residents of the region to seek shelter as quickly as possible. Meanwhile, tornado maps showed a massive tornado approaching Athens in Limestone County.

The latest news release from NWS Huntsville states that a tornado warning remains in effect until 9:15 p.m. (CDT) for northeast Madison, south-central Moore, southeast Lincoln and southwest Franklin counties.
