Olympic gold medalist wrestler Gable Steveson signs with the Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills are signing Olympic gold medalist wrestler Gable Steveson, the team announced Friday.

At 6-foot-1 and 275 pounds, Steveson, who visited the Bills’ facility earlier this month, is expected to compete for a defensive tackle spot.

“I have been fortunate to compete at the highest level of competition in my sport, but I look forward to the challenge of seeing how my wrestling skills can translate to football,” Steveson said. “I’m grateful to coach (Sean) McDermott, (general manager) Brandon Beane and the Buffalo Bills organization for giving me this opportunity.”

At the Tokyo Summer Olympics, Steveson won a gold medal in freestyle wrestling.

At the University of Minnesota, Steveson won two national championships at 285 pounds in 2021 and 2022 and also won the Dan Hodge Trophy, awarded to the top collegiate wrestler.
