One dead in highway accident on 14 in Newhall

Early Sunday morning, one person was killed in a traffic accident on Freeway 14 in Newhall.

At around 2:15 a.m. Sunday morning, emergency responders received reports of a traffic accident on the southbound 14 Freeway near the interchange with the 5 Freeway in Newhall, said Officer Elizabeth Kravig of the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Traffic Management Center.

“One person was pronounced dead at the scene,” Kravig said.

The southbound 5 Freeway interchange was closed for several hours, but lanes reopened at 8:43 a.m.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The identity of the person killed has not been disclosed to the public pending notification of next of kin.
