Two people are killed and several injured when gunfire breaks out at Juneteenth celebration in Round Rock

Two people were shot and several injured when shots were fired at a Juneteenth celebration in Texas.

According to Round Rock police, an altercation between two groups in Old Settlers Park was taking place around 10:50 p.m. Saturday when the shooting began.

There was no information about what led to the shooting.

Two people were killed and several others were hospitalized in the incident, police said. The victims, whose identities have not yet been released, were not part of the fighting groups.

Local police and firefighters assisted in the rescue, and Allen Banks of the Rock Rock Police Department praised their efforts.

“I would like to thank the police and firefighters for their quick action,” he said. “I have no doubt that their quick action in assisting the victims saved lives.”

The people involved in the shooting fled and there were no arrests in the case, Banks said.

“It is unfortunate that we are celebrating a wonderful event and now a tragedy has occurred,” he said. “My thoughts and prayers are with the victims. My condolences go out to the families of those who died.”

According to CBS Austin, the event was billed as a free family reunion. Artists at the concert included DJ Hella Yella and Paula Wall. Wall posted on Facebook after the shooting: “Prayers for Round Rock! This really hurts me.”
