Gainesville woman arrested for stabbing neighbor in elevator

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Katie Graham Wilson, 76, was arrested yesterday and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly stabbing a neighbor in the elevator of her apartment complex with a butcher knife.

At approximately 10:20 a.m. on Friday, a Gainesville Police Department officer responded to The 400 Apartments (400 NW 1st Ave.), where the victim reportedly had a 1-inch cut on his thumb.

The officer reported that Wilson and the victim both live in the same apartment building, but on different floors, and that they have been arguing for about a week. On Friday, Wilson and the victim were in the elevator with another person, and the victim had his hands full. Wilson reportedly became angry and told the victim she was going to kill him. She then reportedly took a butcher knife from her purse and waved it at the victim, cutting his thumb.

The victim said he backed away in fear for his life and the other person pulled Wilson out of the elevator as the doors opened.

After the Miranda check, Wilson allegedly denied using a knife, but said the victim had been harassing and verbally abusing her for weeks.

Wilson was convicted of two misdemeanors (both violent) and successfully completed her probationary sentence last October on one count of assault. She has been released from jail; bail information will not be available until Monday.
