Jacksonville police believe teenager’s death at swimming pool is not a crime

JACKSONVILLE, NC (WITN) – Police are releasing new details about the death of a young girl at a swimming pool on the first of the month.

Jacksonville Police say the investigation into the death of a 15-year-old girl on June 1 at the Holiday City Community Homes swimming pool is still ongoing.

Police Chief Michael Yaniero says that preliminary investigations do not indicate that the death was criminal and that investigators are awaiting autopsy results to confirm the cause of death.

At around 3:50 p.m., Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Services were called to the Corbin Street neighborhood. Officers said they found the victim pulled from the pool and bystanders performed CPR.

The teenager’s death was confirmed at the crime scene.

After the teenager’s death, Holiday City management sent a text message to residents saying they needed a seasonal lifeguard, several residents said.
