Rapist police officer from the West Midlands sentenced to 12 years in prison

A former West Midlands Police officer has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after being found guilty of two counts of rape. Aron May attacked the same woman twice in August 2019, a court heard.

The 40-year-old, who was dismissed from the police force in May following a misconduct hearing, carried out the first attack on August 14. He then carried out robberies on the same woman just days later, MailOnline reported.

May, from Bridgnorth, is said to have picked up his victim and carried her into a room, ignoring her pleas to stop having sex. He carried out his second attack while she was sleeping.

May, of Romsley Lane, Bridgnorth, was found guilty of both sexual assaults following a trial at Worcester Crown Court in April. On Monday (June 19), the same court sentenced him to seven years for the first rape and five years for the second.

His prison sentences will be served consecutively and he has also been given a restraining order prohibiting him from having any contact with his victim.

MailOnline reported that both the judge and the prosecution service had raised concerns about 22 character references submitted on May’s behalf, some of which, apparently from police colleagues, allegedly contained “ill-judged” and “derogatory” comments about the victim and also the jury’s verdict.

Assistant Chief Constable Scott Green told BirminghamLive yesterday: “Aron May was dismissed from West Midlands Police in May 2024 after being convicted of two counts of rape at Worcester Crown Court. Today he was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment.

“The public rightly expects the highest levels of professionalism from our officers and staff, and we are committed to ensuring that those who violate these standards are held accountable.”
