One dead and East Baton Rouge police officer injured in shooting in Baton Rouge, officials say

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (BRPROUD) – A suspect died and an East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office deputy was injured in a shooting in the 5600 block of Robertson Avenue on Thursday, June 6, according to EMS.

“Someone shot at one of our officers,” the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office confirmed. They said the officer was on his way to the hospital.


Emergency services confirmed that the coroner was called regarding the suspect.

East Baton Rouge Mayor and President Sharon Weston Broome issued a statement shortly after the incident.

The full statement reads:

“Today we learn with great sadness that one of our deputies was shot in the line of duty. Our thoughts and prayers are with the deputy and his family.

“We appreciate the rapid response of our emergency services. This incident highlights the daily risks our police officers face and we are committed to providing them with full support and ensuring their safety.
