Police: Albany teenager raped at gunpoint

A 17-year-old from Albany is accused of using a weapon to intimidate a person during a rape. Four other people also face charges.

On May 18, police responded to the area of ​​North Main Avenue and Manning Boulevard for a report of a sexual assault. Detectives from the Albany Police Department’s Children and Family Services Unit determined the identity of the suspect.

On Wednesday, police searched a residence in the 500 block of Lark Drive near Manning Boulevard. They arrested the suspect and found four handguns, two of them loaded, police said.

The 17-year-old’s name is not being released due to his age. He was charged with rape, menacing and five counts of illegal possession of a weapon. He was arraigned in Albany County Family Court and remanded to the Capital District Juvenile Detention Center.

A 15-year-old girl was charged with five counts of illegal possession of a firearm. She was released on summons and will appear before the Albany County Probation Department at a later date.

Chyna Dowdell, 19, was charged with five counts of illegal possession of a firearm. She was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court and remanded to the Albany County Jail on $20,000 bail.

Shaheim Smith, 22, was also charged with five counts of illegal possession of a firearm. He was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court and remanded to the Albany County Jail on $40,000 bail.
Octavia Smith, 40, was charged with eight counts of illegal possession of a firearm. She was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court and transported to the Albany County Jail.
