Child on ATV dies after collision with SUV on Route 140 in Tulare County

TULARE COUNTY, CA (June 3, 2024) – A 12-year-old boy died in an ATV accident on Route 140 in Tulare County Friday evening, May 31.

The fatal crash occurred just before 7 p.m. on Avenue 432 near Orosi. According to the California Highway Patrol, the boy was riding the ATV when he failed to stop at a stop sign on Route 140. He then crashed into the front of a GMC SUV traveling east on Avenue 432.

Rescue workers rendered medical aid to the boy, but he died at the scene. Officials said the unidentified victim was wearing a helmet.

The woman was taken to hospital with minor injuries. She remained on site and cooperated with the officers.

The CHP said there was no stop sign on Avenue 432, so the 61-year-old driver of the SUV had the right of way.

The child was a sixth-grader at El Monte Middle School.

This death is still under investigation.

Our deepest condolences go out to the victim’s family.
