Man arrested for raping and killing his 7-year-old niece

Mayurbhanj: A person was arrested for raping and killing her seven-year-old niece in Mayurbhanj district, police said today.

The accused was identified as Ramesh Chandra Dehuri.

According to reports, the minor was alone when the accused visited her house on Saturday morning. Her family members had gone to the polling booth to exercise their right to vote.

The accused took advantage of the situation, lured her to a remote place and raped her. He later strangled her.

When the girl’s family returned home in the afternoon, they could not find her anywhere and started searching for her frantically. Later, they discovered the girl’s naked body in a remote place. When they asked how the little girl got there, the villagers told them that they had seen Dehuri taking her to the remote place.

Kulian police registered a case under Sections 376(AB), 302 IPC and POCSO Act and arrested the accused.
