Louisiana rapist sentenced to physical castration and 50 years in prison for assaulting teenager

A 54-year-old Louisiana man was sentenced to 50 years in prison and physical castration after being convicted of raping and impregnating a 14-year-old girl.

According to a news release from 21st District Attorney Scott M. Perrilloux, Glenn Sullivan Sr. of Springfield pleaded guilty April 17 to four counts of second-degree rape in connection with multiple attacks on the teenager.

Springfield is a small town in Livingston Parrish, about 50 miles east of Baton Rouge.

The crimes came to light, the release said, after a young woman came forward and told Livingston Parrish Sheriff’s Office investigators that Sullivan had sexually abused her when she was a teenager.

After the teen became pregnant, a judge ordered a DNA test that proved Sullivan had impregnated the teen, prosecutors said.

Investigators learned that Sullivan groomed the victim and threatened her and her family with violence to keep her from reporting the attacks to authorities, the release said.

Why the rape conviction didn’t stand: One woman after another told her story, but the conviction didn’t hold up. Here’s why.

Judge sentences Glenn Sullivan Sr. to 50 years and physical castration

On April 22, Judge William Dykes sentenced Sullivan to 50 years in prison and, as part of a plea agreement, he agreed to physical castration, Perrilloux said.

“So many cases like this go unreported because of fear,” Perrilloux wrote in the press release. “The strength it must have taken for this young woman to speak the truth in the face of threats and adversity is truly incredible.”

First ordered physical castration in the district

Assistant District Attorney Brad J. Cascio, who prosecuted the case, wrote in the news release that he intends to “use every tool the Legislature makes available to us, including physical castration, to achieve justice for the children in our community “.

“I would like to say that I have had three people ordered to undergo chemical castration, but to my knowledge this is the first physical castration that has been ordered,” Cascio told WBRZ-TV.
