Boil Alert Issued for Atlanta After Water Main Breaks

Officials said the rupture occurred when three pipes carrying large quantities of water to the city caused a main transmission line to rupture. This caused water outages and low water pressure across much of downtown and downtown.

There is currently no timetable for the return of water services.

Friday evening, DWM officials reported two more ruptures were found at West Peachtree and 11th Street, as well as Atlantic Drive. These breaks are apparently not linked to the main break.

The crisis has hit restaurants and businesses and left many households without reliable water supplies.

The DWM shut off water services to much of Atlanta on Friday evening and urged residents to boil water “out of an abundance of caution.”

The boil water advisory was still in effect Saturday.

“DWM crews are working diligently to repair the water main located at the intersection of Joseph E. Boone Boulevard and JP Brawley,” the department said in a Facebook post Saturday afternoon.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.”

Several weekend events were canceled or postponed in downtown Atlanta, including a performance by rapper Megan Thee Stallion at State Farm Arena.
