Shelter warning issued near Halls Mill Road

MOBILE, Alabama (WALA) – Authorities have issued a shelter-in-place warning following an incident in Mobile County.

The Mobile Fire Department has released a statement. The statement reads as follows:

“As a precautionary measure, the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department is asking residents to seek shelter within a two-mile radius of 5327 Halls Mill Road in Mobile, Alabama due to a hazardous materials incident. This area includes portions of Tillman’s Corner, Cypress Shores, Crestview and Rivière du Chien.”

Mobile Fire Department units were dispatched to a commercial building fire in the 5300 block of Halls Mill Road in Mobile, Alabama at approximately 7:03 a.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2024.

Doug Cooper of the Mobile County Emergency Management Agency says there were containers of chlorine in the building that were damaged by the fire.

Crews established a water supply and extinguished the fire. Pallets of chlorine material reacted with water and Hazmat 15 was dispatched to the scene.

At 9:12 a.m., Doug Cooper of the Mobile County Emergency Management Agency said the fire was out. No injuries were reported. We are also working to determine how long the curfew will last.
