Pedophile Brett Baker from South Essex found guilty of raping a child

Brett Baker appeared at Basildon Crown Court on Tuesday where he was convicted of sexually abusing a child following a week-long trial.

On January 27, Essex Police received a report of the sexual abuse of a child at a property in Grays.

Baker was arrested the next day and released on bail so that specialist child abuse investigators could conduct further investigations.

The victim was initially unable to describe the abuse in words, but eventually told the police that she had been abused several times.

Forensic tests also found Baker’s DNA in his victim’s underwear, Essex Police said.

The 33-year-old denied raping a girl under 13, three counts of penetrative sexual abuse of a child under 13 and one count of sexual abuse of a child.

On Tuesday he was found guilty of all charges by a jury at Basildon Crown Court.

DC Jeffery Wainman said: “The victim was under 10 at the time of the abuse and it is difficult to comprehend the suffering Baker inflicted on her.

“I want to commend the officers in this case who spent hours analyzing incriminating evidence to obtain this conviction of Baker.

“Our child abuse investigation team continues to work closely with partners, including social care, to protect vulnerable children and investigate child abuse.”

Baker, of River View, Grays, will appear at Basildon Crown Court for sentencing on June 28.
