Former NBA player Drew Gordon died in a tragic car accident on Thursday, May 30, at the age of 33. He is the older brother of Denver Nuggets forward Aaron Gordon.

The player’s agent, Calvin Andrews, confirmed the heartbreaking news to ESPN Andscape journalist Marc J. Spears.

The car accident that killed the 6-foot-1 player occurred in Portland, Oregon.

Drew Gordon made a brief appearance in the NBA during the 2014–15 season, playing nine games for the Philadelphia 76ers after going undrafted in the 2012 NBA Draft.

During his time with the Sixers, he averaged 1.9 points, 2.0 rebounds, 0.2 assists and 0.1 steals in 7.9 minutes per game.

Drew Gordon had a dazzling career abroad

Gordon played college basketball for UCLA and New Mexico before spending the majority of his professional career overseas in Europe, specifically Serbia, Italy, Turkey, France, Lithuania, Russia, Poland and Ukraine. He also spent the final stretch of his professional career in Japan.

He was playing for Kyiv-based club BC Budivelnyk when the Russian invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022 and he was forced to leave the country.

The San Jose, California native announced his retirement from professional basketball last year on his 33rd birthday.

The former McDonald’s All-American leaves behind his wife Angela and his young sons Zane and Brody, according to ESPN.
