Lloyd Nolan, Army Veteran

He enlisted at the age of 17 as a soldier, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather who served in the Korean War and World War II, respectively.

Nolan explained, “I joined when I was 17. I never had a draft card to fight for this country. I’m a Vietnam veteran and I started at Fort Johnson, Louisiana (formerly Fort Polk).

Nolan was honorably discharged after one year of service.

Cyclists of all ages and skills gather at Buffalo Naval and Military Park for a slow-paced ride.

The 68-year-old rides every Monday but this ride is a bit special for him.

“I ride with Slow Roll because it’s like family. I like to go out and meet people. Today I ride for the dead,” Nolan said.

Julio Serrano, army veteran

Julio Serrano is also an Army veteran having also served in the National Guard and Air Guard, and served a total of 10 years.

He goes up to remind himself to be grateful.

“We do it for the soldiers who fell and for those who did not return from World War I to the Vietnam conflict. We ride for them,” said Army veteran Julio Serrano. “For the memory, for what they did and sacrificed their lives to give us the freedom we have right now.”
