Alabama man arrested for spray-painting hate messages and swastikas on Nashville homes

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (WSMV) – Nashville detectives arrested a 19-year-old Alabama man and suspected member of a white supremacist group Sunday night for allegedly spray-painting five homes in Sylvan Park with swastikas and hate messages in March 2023.

Police cannot identify the man because he was a minor at the time of the crime. Investigators learned that the suspect was expected to attend a concert in the Madison area on Sunday evening and arrested him.

He is charged with five counts each of vandalism, criminal conspiracy, trespassing, civil rights intimidation and one count of theft. “The vandalism occurred at homes on Westlawn Drive and Nebraska, Wyoming, Colorado and Idaho Avenues,” police said.

“In surveillance video of one of the homes released by the MNPD on March 19, 2023, two masked men can be seen approaching the porch. One of the men quickly sprayed paint over the camera lens. They then sprayed hate messages on the property and stole a Colombian flag. Police Chief John Drake immediately ordered an increased police presence in the Sylvan Park area in response to the hate message vandalism.”
