APC declares suspension of Ganduje, Jaji and others unconstitutional, null and void

The North West Deputy Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Garba Datti, has declared the suspension of the party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, and Birnin Magaji/Shinkafi Constituency member Aminu Sani Jaji, as well as other suspensions by some elements carried out by the party at the district, local government and state levels are unconstitutional, null and void.

While delivering his welcome address at the North West stakeholders meeting attended by governors, former governors, senators and members of the House of Representatives in Kaduna on Sunday, the APC chairman said the amended APC Constitution does not give them the power to do so.

According to him, these powers lie with the party’s National Working Committee.

He lamented that a fundamental issue that needs to be addressed is the spate of suspensions which has become a trend with the party, particularly at the district level, allegedly suspending prominent party members.

“The most recent example is Zamfara State. We are aware that the problems in Kano and Zamfara States are instigated by individuals who claim to be members of our party but are in fact moles working for opposition parties.

“Let me clarify that as per our amended constitution, no organ of the party at any level has the power to suspend members of the party until due process has been followed at all levels, after which the National Working Committee (NWC) has the final say.

“In other words, no member of our party can be suspended without recourse to the NWC. To be clear: such suspensions are unconstitutional, null and void and the status quo ante remains in place!”

Further commenting, he praised the zone for its tremendous contribution to the growth of the party and said, “As a zone, we have made significant contributions to the growth and development of our great party and its electoral victories.”

“We are also aware of the need to review our 2015 election victories to address issues affecting the zone at both governmental and political levels so that we continue to renew, be dynamic, vibrant and energetic as a party and continue to grow from strength to strength.”
