31 MPs are calling on Borrell to suspend Georgia’s candidate status

31 members of the European Parliament (EP) are calling on Vice President of the European Commission and Head of EU Diplomacy Josep Borrell to suspend Georgia’s status as an EU candidate country, MEP Petras Austrevičius published the corresponding letter on social networks, Report reports Georgian media.

“The Georgian authorities’ continued undemocratic actions, in particular their aggressiveness in adopting a bill on foreign agents ‘Russian-style’, repressing peaceful demonstrators and using violence against them, have crossed the line,” the letter said .

It is said that this behavior further increased tensions and polarization in Georgian politics and society, contrary to the nine steps that the Georgian government had committed to.
