Man dies after Louisville police shooting at Pleasure Ridge Park | Crime reports

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A man shot by police at Pleasure Ridge Park Friday night died Sunday morning, according to Louisville Metro Police.

LMPD Col. Steve Healey said 3rd Division officers responded to an armed suspect in the 4700 block of Crawford Avenue at 10:58 p.m. Upon arrival, officers were greeted by a suspect with a knife.

Healey said, “The officers repeatedly gave the suspect commands to drop the knife that they saw in his hand,” but the suspect refused and continued to advance toward the officers with the knife in his hand.

Healey said officers used less lethal methods to apprehend the suspect, but those methods failed and had “limited impact” on the suspect.

Three LMPD officers fired their weapons, but Col. Healey said the suspect kept coming toward the officers “still with a large knife in his hand.”

After officers fired their weapons, they attempted to perform life-saving measures on the suspect, but the suspect held them away with the knife still in his hand, Healey said.

Eventually, the officers were able to disarm the suspect and carry out life-saving measures on him. Healey said the suspect was alert and conscious and was transported to UofL Hospital.

The man, whose identity is not known, died on Sunday morning.

LMPD’s Public Integrity Unit will lead the investigation and body camera footage will be released within 10 days, per LMPD policy.
