Man is held in kidnapping and rape case in UP after 40 years on the run

The Mumbai Police have arrested a 70-year-old man from Agra in Uttar Pradesh who was an absconder in a kidnapping and rape case for the last 40 years, an official said on Tuesday, PTI reported on Tuesday.

The accused has been identified as Papa alias Dawood Bandu Khan, he said.

Based on concrete information, a team of employees from the police station Dr. Dadabhai Bhadkamkar Marg in south Mumbai Khan was arrested in Agra on Monday, he said.

He has been brought to Mumbai on remand and will be produced before the court here, he said.

“In 1984, a case of kidnapping and rape was registered against Khan based on a complaint lodged by a woman,” he said.
Khan was arrested in the case and was released on bail.

“When the trial began, he only attended a few hearings and then did not appear in court. The court had declared him absconding,” the official said.

A team from the police station Dr. DB Marg had launched a search and also visited his home on Falkland Road, but it emerged that he had sold that property and left town with his family.

During the investigation, it emerged that he was somewhere in the northern states, the official said.

Over the years, various police teams tried to search him but he remained untraceable, he said.

“However, the police officials recently received specific information that he was staying with his family in Agra. Accordingly, a police team was sent to this city in Uttar Pradesh where Khan was arrested,” the official said.
