The coroner has ruled on an accident in which a British traveler fell to his death from a guesthouse in Vietnam

A 46-year-old British man fell to his death while “very drunk” in Vietnam, an inquest has heard.

Ben Milner, 46, was in Ho Chi Minh City when he died in November 2022 after falling drunk from the third floor of a guest house. The manager of the guest house saw the Londoner “talking to himself”.

A post-mortem in the UK found he died from multiple injuries from the fall, including a fractured skull. His blood test also showed a blood alcohol level of 278 mg per 100 ml of blood, almost three times the UK legal drink-driving limit.

According to the CCTV footage he was “standing unstable and fell into the main door of the guest house”, coroner Rachael Griffin told the inquest in Bournemouth.

There were “no signs of crime” or third-party involvement, according to a report from Vietnamese authorities.

“Ben was deeply loved and his death caused great devastation,” the coroner concluded, according to the BBC. “He was someone who lived life to the fullest. He enjoyed life and loved to travel.”

“Ben was a very sensible young man who was very interested in healthy eating and self-care,” said his sister Amanda. “He was interested in computers and was very knowledgeable in the field,” she said The Daily Mirror. His death left “a huge void” in the lives of his family members, she said, expressing satisfaction with the coroner’s report.

“There is no evidence of third-party involvement in his death. I am satisfied on the balance of probabilities that he died as a result of multiple injuries sustained in a fall from height.”
