Gov. Mike DeWine has signed a bill banning all forms of rape in Ohio.

Believe it not, rape was technically legal in Ohio – as long as the victim was married to the perpetrator.

House Bill 161, signed Friday, removes legal language exempting criminals from raping their spouses in several sections of the revised law.

An example of this is a section of the Ohio Revised Code that states: “No person shall engage in sexual conduct with another person who is not the spouse of the offender or who is the spouse of the offender but living separate and apart from the offender.” .” “

This also applies if the perpetrator made the victim drunk or drugged to impair his or her judgment.

The bill also closes a loophole that legalized child rape as long as the child was married to the perpetrator.

Additionally, HB 161 allows victims to testify against their spouse.

The bill will take effect 90 days after DeWine files the bill with the Secretary of State’s Office.
