Highway closures near the Utah airport are expected this weekend

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) – If you’re planning on traveling to Salt Lake City International Airport this weekend, here are some ramp closures you should know about, according to UDOT.

The ramp from northbound I-215 to westbound I-80 will close at 8 p.m. Friday, May 10, and is expected to reopen at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14

The ramp from eastbound I-80 to northbound I-215 will also close starting Friday, May 10th at 8 p.m. and is expected to open for the morning commute on Monday, May 13th.

These closures may affect your travel to the airport. UDOT urges travelers to plan ahead and give themselves extra time.

Kylar Sharp, UDOT Region II senior communications manager, suggests using the UDOT Traffic app and the UDOT Traffic website. UDOT has also posted detours for these routes on-line that drivers can check this in advance.

Sharp said these projects focus on repair work, fixing potholes and making the ride more comfortable for drivers.

“We’ve had a few tough winters. UDOT takes pride in preserving our assets and we want to ensure our commuters get to their destinations safely,” he said. “Safety is our top priority.”

This is part of a project UDOT will be working to update 62 bridges in Salt Lake County this summer.

Sharp said he understands the frustration that can come with closures but appreciates the public’s patience.
