Two dead in plane crash in West Atlantic City

Escarlin Suriel, 21, of Atlantic City, and Gabriella Constrantino, 22, of Pleasantville, died in the crash, police said.

The accident is currently being investigated by the township police and the Atlantic County District Attorney’s Office.

Township police responded to a traffic accident on Black Horse Pike in front of the Oh St. Joseph Resort Hotel around 8:19 p.m.

A silver 2017 Nissan Sentra was traveling westbound on Black Horse Pike when it crossed into the eastbound lane and collided with a 2018 Kia Forte driven by Suriel, police said.

Constantino was a passenger in the silver Sentra.

The force of the impact caused the Kia Forte to be thrown backwards and hit by a red Nissan Sentra (model year 2020), which was also traveling east, police said.

The red Sentra left the road and came to rest on the west side of the roadway. The Kia Forte came to rest in the swampy area on the east side of the road, police said.

The silver Sentra came to a stop in the eastbound lane, which is traveling westbound. A fourth vehicle, a silver 2019 Toyota Yaris, was struck by debris from one of the vehicles.

After the head-on collision, the silver Sentra caught fire.

“There were several witnesses and other passing motorists who then stopped and helped pull the occupants of the Nissan from the vehicle before it was fully engulfed in flames,” the township police said in a statement. “We are grateful to the individuals who acted quickly and selflessly.”

Two juvenile passengers, a man and a woman, in the silver Sentra are in critical condition; the male passenger was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus, and the woman was flown to Cooper Medical Center in Camden.

Another passenger in the silver Sentra, Kenneth Jones, 25, of Pleasantville, was taken to City Campus for his injuries.

Francesco Nin Ferreras, 27, of Atlantic City, a passenger in the Forte, was taken to City Campus for his injuries.

Two other passengers in the red Sentra were taken to City Campus with minor injuries.

Another man was taken to the hospital after helping to free the occupants of the silver Sentra. His injury status was unknown Saturday morning.

During the accident investigation, the Black Horse Pike was diverted for approximately 7.5 hours.
